Frodo has the ring. The ring is pure evil and works hard to corrupt whoever has it. The more they use the ring, the more susceptable they become to corruption. Smeagol/Gollum had the ring before Frodo. Smeagol morphed into Gollum the longer he posessed and used the ring (about 500 years). Smeagol is the good side of Smeagol/Gollum and agrees to be Frodo's guide to Mordor and Mount Doom (the only place the ring can be destroyed and that is the purpose of Frodo's quest). Gollum is the evil side and wants the ring (his "precious") back at all costs. He agrees to go along with his Smeagol side until he can figure a way to get the ring from Frodo. Gollum hatches the plan to lure Frodo into Shelob's lair where Shelob will kill Frodo. Smeagol goes along because really his promise is to "protect precious". As Frodo goes along on his quest, he comes more and more under the influence of the ring. The time comes when Smeagol/Gollum finally attack and try for the ring. He fails and Frodo says to him "If you touch me ever again, you shall be cast yourself into the Fire of Doom". And that prophesy comes to pass a short while later such is the power of the ring. As Frodo at last is on the brink of the Cracks of Doom, he puts on the ring and claims it for himself. Sauron is immediately aware of this and dispatches the Nazgul (wraiths) to get the ring. Gollum attacks Frodo once again and this time bites off Frodo's finger and gains the ring. As he dances for glee, the prophesy comes true and Gollum and the ring fall into the fires of Mount Doom to be totally consumed, thus ending Sauron's reign of terror.
My point to this is: we must destroy Gollum. I won't say it will guarentee our victory, but it removes one path to our defeat. I assume whoever is Gollum in the game is searching for me. If they find me, they will probably give up Frodo. If that happens and we learn Gollum's identity, he should die.
I can't believe I typed all that.
Yes, I have the books, multiple copies actually as I've worn them out, and have the movies on DVD :nerd:
